NOW BOOKING! Water –Mayim Workshops and Residencies
Mayim Workshops and Residencies
In 2004, Julie Gayer created “Mayim, A Ritual of Transformation,” based on the contemporary uses of the ritual of mikvah inspired by “The Mikvah Project,” a photography exhibition by Janet Rubin and Leah Lax. In addition to the performance of “Mayim,” accompanied by live music composed by Newman Taylor Baker, Avodah also leads workshops and residencies focusing on the theme of feminine empowerment and the healing qualities of water. Using movement, text, and percussion, participants will be guided through improvisation and choreography from Avodah's repertory.
This project is particularly appropriate for:
1) an intergenerational grouping of women (such as sisterhood organizations) from different stages of development including teenagers, adults, and seniors, and
2) women exploring healing.
***On November 19th, Avodah performed at Congregation Beth El in Cherry Hill, NJ. Completing a circle, Julie attended synagogue and religious day school at Beth El as a girl and was delighted to return with Avodah. Avodah presented a special performance and workshop for the Congregation’s Sisterhood Paid Membership Event.
