Newman Taylor Baker, percussionist, teaching artist, composer, vocalist, is noted for his solo project, Singin' Drums, which honors the drum set as "the Drum of U.S. African Culture" through a broad repertoire of music for solo drum set. Often compared to poetry, Baker's Singin' Drums has qualities of the spoken word, uncannily articulate yet non-verbal. Baker is composer and performer for the Avodah Dance Ensemble, member of the Henry Grimes Trio, Mickey D. & Friends Dance Company, Billy Harper Quintet, Francesca Tanksley Trio, Benny Powell Quintet, and the Billy Bang Quartet.
